Having your cat spayed or neutered is part of responsible pet ownership, as it prevents cat overpopulation and disease. If you are considering adopting a kitten who will need to be spayed or neutered, please call our clinic to discuss the cost of surgery, as it needs to be considered before you make the decision to adopt.

What is spaying or neutering?

Spaying is the removal of both ovaries and the uterus in female cats. Neutering is the removal of both testicles in male cats. Spaying and neutering will eliminate the risk of unwanted pregnancies, it will reduce or eliminate unwanted behaviours such as heat in females and urine spraying/marking in males. Spaying will greatly reduce the risk of mammary tumors in females and prevent uterine infections (pyometra). Neutering reduces the desire to roam and fight in male cats.

When should I neuter/spay my cat?

We recommend it is done around 5-6 months of age for maximum benefit, but it’s also never too late!
